Equipment Safety

Equipment Safety
  • Keep your chimney flue and vents for appliances clean and in good condition.
  • Appliances and heating equipment areas (including water heaters) should be free of paper, debris, and flammable materials.
  • Clean or replace furnace filters every month or as recommended by the manufacturer during the heating season.
  • Natural gas-fired appliances that are attached to a flexible connector should only be moved or replaced by professionals. Old flexible connectors should be replaced and not reused because they may become brittle over time and develop small cracks which can leak enough gas to reach a hazardous level.
  • Don’t step, sit, lean, or place any objects on flexible connectors attached to appliances.
  • Never use your oven, range, or outdoor barbeque to heat your home because these appliances are not designed for this purpose.
  • Refer to your water heater manufacturer’s recommendations for safe water heater temperature settings.
